Traffic Lights – Next Generation
October 18th, 2011 | 1 CommentHave you ever caught yourself staring at the street traffic lights changing their faces red-yellow-green-again-and-again? With their boring routine, despite of all the colors, today’s traffic lights have gone out of date long time ago.
However, the future of these old iron poles we like to call traffic lights is becoming more and more bright as technology and imagination are developing their potentials. There is an actual race going on to find next suitable design which will change and revolutionize the boring concept we have today. These new futuristic designs will not only be improved esthetically but will also help keeping the streets safe. Off course, when it comes to developing something for the public areas, it can be quite a challenge, as it needs to include energy consumption which pretty much every government is trying to cut down on.
One of the concepts for the traffic lights with the new futuristic look is the idea from Kisung Lee called Mobius Strip Light which is a wonderful twist of a traffic light, street light and pedestrian light all combined into a single twisted strip. The lights themselves are LED and when the night falls, this invention becomes a testament of the genuine futuristic thinking.
This invention incorporates pretty much everything needed for a promising and secure future of the street traffic, preventing cars from hitting pedestrians or other cars. They will also fulfill the visual expectations of the futuristic look of our streets.
I believe that not only these new lights would help keep the streets safer, but also, people would rather look at these creations than the old poles we have today which are nothing but a dull and boring lighting. And considering all of this, aren’t we all ready for a bit of refreshing “twisted“ traffic inovations?

Very interesting. I don’t agree about “boring”. Anything familiar (even this new design) can be labelled “boring”. However, I am assuming the numbers on the traffic and pedestrian lights are indicators of time left in stop or to walk. These numbers are marvelously useful to both drivers, cyclists and pedestrians. Bravo for that.
