Here is a piece of contemporary art for each of us to think about!

Nic Nicosia, born in 1951 in Dallas is a contemporary artist who uses a camera while applying his cinematic mind-set to make a still image. He fabricates and stages situations and events to be photographed and is considered to be a pioneer of the staged photographic movement from the early 1980’s. His contemporary art has been shown in solo and important group exhibitions in the US, Canada and Europe. In 1999, the Contemporary Arts Museum in Houston, launched a retrospective of Nicosia’s work. Another major survey of his work was exhibited at CASA in Salamanca, Spain, in 2003.

In these pictures we can observe some of the motives of Nicosia’s work which range from themes common to contemporary art such as a strong message of human nature and character to the philosophical visualisation of human existance. Nicosia uses the silhouette of human body – a puppet opposed by a fluid background movement – to show the equality of all humans confronted with the same fears and anxieties that haunt us all. In his somewhat disturbing portraying of human being in it’s metaphorical surrounding, we can notice the inner confrontations of human beings.

With the titles such as “Illusion Of Wistful Thinking”, “ Mouth To Mind”, “ Fighter” ,“ Circle Of Possibilites” and others we can add another layer of anxiety to his work. I’m sure everyone of us can relate and ponder about the meaning of his pictures and how it reflects our thoughts and feelings. After closer looking, can you find yourself in his work?
